ABOUT ROBERT JEWELL WILSON
Senator Bob Wilson is an award winning professional landscape artist. Bob has painted for over 30 years. In addition, Bob is a practicing attorney for over 40 years and is admitted both in California and the Federal District Bar.
Bob has been honored by two solo shows. His show at the Helen Jones Gallery in California sold out as did his show at the Kennedy Gallery on Sanibel Island, Florida.
Bob has won numerous awards. He was recognized as one of the five best artists at a Northern California juried show. His painting entitled “Sponger” was ranked third best by art patrons at the Studios of Key West member’s show.
One of the Senator’s golf landscape paintings graces the cover of noted golf architect, David Druzisky’s portfolio.
The Senator’s paintings hang in private collections through the United States and have appeared in PleinAir Magazine and Southwest Art Magazine.
While serving in the California Senate, Bob was a member of the California Art’s Council for years.
As an adjunct to his paintings, Bon Wilson is an avid collector of fine paintings. He owns or has owned paintings by most of the famous early California landscape masters, including Granville Redmond, Edgar Payne, Percy Gray, William Keith and Thomas Hill and numerous Key West artists including Mike Rooney, Jim Salem, Pricilla Coote and Peter Vey. He also owns paintings by Jim Wilcox, Keith McPherson, Anita Hampton, Matt Smith and Kathyrn Stats, among others.
Senator Wilson served in both the California Assembly and Senate and chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The Senator received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Poly. He received his MPA from the University of Southern California, graduating first in his class. Bob received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego.
Bob has received distinguished alumni awards from both Cal Poly and the University of San Diego.
Mr. Wilson is listed in Who’s Who and Who’s Who in Law.
While serving in the California Senate, Bob was a member of the California Art’s Council for four years.
Bob is married to Sharman Wilson who is an avid collector of art. Bob and Sharman have two children. Their daughter, Sharman Russell, M.D., graduated from Vanderbilt University and Chicago Medical School and is currently an assistant professor at Washington University in St. Louis in OB/GYN. Sharman and her husband, Andrew, a board certified emergency doctor, have 3-year-old twin daughters, Sarah and Emily, and a new son, Joshua. Sharman surprised her father one Father’s day by presenting him with a landscape she had painted. According to the Senator, this is the best painting in his collection.

Mr. Wilson resides part of the year at his residence on Sugarloaf Key, Florida, where he spends several days each week painting. Bob owns a ranch and an 18-hole golf course in Idaho as well as a small ranch in Northern California, which serve as excellent venues for his landscape paintings. Mr. Wilson signs his paintings either “Bob Wilson” or “4W” which is his cattle brand. The brand stands for each of the four Wilsons – Bob, his wife, Sharman, his daughter Sharman and his son Robert.
Their son, Robert Wilson II, M.D., graduated from The University of Chicago and Vanderbilt Medical School. Robert is currently an orthopedic surgeon and doing a fellowship in Orthopedic Oncology at Vanderbilt. Robert, under the tutelage of his dad, has painted several landscapes. Robert’s wife, Jessica, is board certified in Internal Medicine and is doing a fellowship in endocrinology at Vanderbilt. As an undergraduate at Vanderbilt, she took one art class and did some of the best figure drawings and portrait drawings that I have ever seen. This January, Robert and Jessica had their first baby, a son, Robert Jewell Wilson, III.
